DECEMBER LUNCHEON

Renovation Innovation: The 5th Street Public Market Blueprint for Success

Dana Howe, Marketing Director, 5th Street Public Market

Dana Howe, Marketing Director, 5th Street Public Market

When the dust settles, how many customers will you have left?

Let's face it, construction workers are not good for business. Scaffolding and shopping simply don't mix. Drywall and dinner are a wholly unappetizing affair. And nailguns are definitely a no-no. So, what's a business to do when renovations are essential to continued growth and prosperity, yet potentially deadly to interim sales and long-term loyalty? Dana Howe, marketing director for 5th Street Public Market, will point you in the right direction at AMA's special December lunch event. Hear how 5th Street Public Market not only stayed open during major renovations, but thrived. Learn creative strategies for maintaining public interest and keeping traffic flowing. And find out how to realign your marketing promotions, goals, and markets after your grand unveiling.

Reserve your seat for "Renovation Innovation: The 5th Street Public Market Blueprint for Success."

Get Involved

When I joined the Southwest Oregon Chapter, I was looking for an opportunity to learn more about marketing and public relations, network/meet people and have fun — in that order. I was initially so nervous to get involved. As a recent UO grad, I knew very few people in the community.

I still have vivid memories of my first meeting. I remember walking into the Valley River Inn with my heart beating rapidly. Would anyone talk to me? Was my outfit appropriate? Would anyone let me sit at their table? Mitch Hagstrom was the first person I saw. A former president of the AMA, he greeted me and guided me to a seat at a roundtable. Shelley Snow, a soon-to-be AMA president, introduced herself. We began talking and my nerves were put to ease.

Mitch and Shelley were my first real marketing contacts in Eugene. They made the effort to acknowledge and actively engage the newbie, and for that I am forever grateful.

For those of you who have recently joined the AMA and have feelings of trepidation... you need not worry. The 16-member Board wants to meet you. We want to chat with you and we would love for you to get involved in a committee or work on one of our volunteer projects. Please look for us at our next luncheon, as we want to meet you as well.

I look forward to hearing from you!

- Jenny

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Nancy Bauer

Nancy Bauer

Nancy Bauer is our December Volunteer of the Month. We're grateful to Nancy for generously volunteering her time each month to develop the PowerPoint presentations that run before our luncheons. She enjoys creating the slides to help you stay informed of current and upcoming events and to thank sponsors and volunteers.

Nancy launched Northwest Visuals, a presentation design and consulting firm, in 1985 while living in Seattle. Nancy makes life easier for clients by providing presentation coaching and PowerPoint makeovers right at their desks. She also designs PowerPoint templates and custom slideshows to match their branding. Her beginning and advanced PowerPoint classes are offered on-site or at LCC's Business Development Center. If you are interested in improving your speaking skills, ask Nancy about Toastmasters.

Outside of her career, Nancy is passionate about gardening — especially in the spring when the garden wakes up. She is an avid snow and water-skier, and enjoys traveling, family, creative art projects and interior design (the papier maché giraffe in her great room is taller than her!).

Thank you, Nancy, for your hard work and dedication to AMA!
